The Asinara National Park

Discover the Asinara National Park: a treasure near Stintino

The Asinara National Park is a protected area established in 1997, which includes the entire island of Asinara and covers approximately 52 km² with a coastline of over 110 km.

An unmissable destination for those spending their holidays in Stintino, Asinara is a wild and evocative island that boasts dream beaches, unspoiled landscapes, and a unique history. Its coves, including Cala d'Oliva, Cala Reale, Cala Sabina, and Cala Arena, offer enchanting scenery with white sand, wind-shaped rocks, and transparent waters with endless shades of blue.

For over a century, the island was a place of isolation: first a lazaretto, then an agricultural penal colony and, until the 1990s, the site of a maximum security prison. This long period of closure preserved Asinara from all forms of urbanization, leaving it intact and wild. Today, these places can be visited, having been partly transformed into reception centers and museums of memory.

Reaching the island is easy: boats depart daily from Stintino and Porto Torres, with services including ferries, tourist boats, and catamarans. Once on the island, you can get around on foot along the trails, by bicycle, by electric vehicle, by authorized off-road vehicles, or by tourist bus. There are refreshment points, a hostel, and information centers where you can learn more about the island's natural and historical heritage.

To preserve this unique ecosystem, Asinara is subject to specific rules: camping or staying overnight in tents, lighting fires, picking plants, or disturbing animals is not permitted. Swimming, sailing, and anchoring are only allowed in specific, marked areas, and taking sand or shells with you is not permitted.

Visiting Asinara means enjoying a unique experience: encountering the white donkey, symbol of the park, discovering secret coves, admiring unforgettable sunsets, and immersing yourself in a place where nature and history blend in perfect harmony.
